Kavieng is the capital of New Ireland Province, situated on a beautiful harbour at the northern tip of the island. This is a sleepy litle town with a surprisingly modern airport, two supermarkets, a couple of government offices, two hotels and a regular fresh food market.

Kavieng is the ideal base for a Papua New Guinea diving adventure. Situated only one degree south of the equator, this is the South Sea! As well as great diving Kavieng does offer other activities if can't get into the slower pace of life, including Surfing (Nusa Island caters specifically for surfers), Biking and experiencing the Malagan Culture in local villages.

You should give yourself 5 to 10 days to discover everything Kavieng has to offer. The Lissenung Island Resort is an excellent place to stay whilst exploring the relaxing Kavieng. However the TreeHouse Village Resort is a little out of Kavieng itself but altogether a very relaxing resort.
