Tari, in Southern Highlands Province, is the main town for the Huli Wigmen and also the centre of the Tari basin. Tari is a very small town with little to offer except the people and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

In the 1980’s Tari went through a boom with the Mt Kare goldrush and since then things have quietened down. There is a market on Saturdays where the Huli Wigmen are normally visitors, and there are smaller markets Wednesday to Saturday.

The Tari basin is a great location for bird watchers; numerous birds of paradise can be spotted.
