The capital of Sandaun Province, Vanimo, sits on a peninsula with beaches on either side and everything is within walking distance. Vanimo is small and quiet and the people here are generous and hospitable. 

Flights to Vanimo with Air Niugini

There are some excellent beaches around Vanimo that are great for swimming. A good 2 hour walk around the headland has some great snorkelling spots. You can hire a boat from West Deco village near the main wharf and visit Narimo Island, visible from shore, and is an excellent location for lunch and swimming.

The coastline between Vanimo and the Indonesian border has many superb beaches, creeks and lagoons. Lido village, 8km west of Vanimo, is an excellent spot for surfing and has a village guesthouse. From here you can hire a bicycle and cycle to Yako village to see some fantastic architecture.
