Lae has both scenic coastal views and mountains looming over the town. There is a lot to see and do in this area. The Rainforest Habitat is the jewel of the town, which is definitely worth a visit, and the town itself is situated around the botanical gardens. 

Lae is a coastal town and the capital of the Morobe Province, with the Huon Gulf on its doorstep there are a variety of watersports available. The town markets are worth a visit too; the main one is on the Westside of the airstrip, the Butibum and Kamkumsung markets are smaller but also have their own charm.

Lae is home to the University of Technology (Unitech) located within landscaped parks and gardens and is the perfect opportunity to explore the public collection of local artefacts, with many rare pieces.

The new big attraction in Lae is the Rainforest Habitat, 3000 square metres of reconstructed rainforest inside a covered shadehouse. The Habitat includes a lake, a variety of plants, native flowers and even birds.
